What do the scholars and jurists say about shaking hands and hugging each other after Friday
salah and Eid salah when some people think this to be necessary and means of getting reward?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is Sunnah to shake hands when two muslims meet. It is also sunnah to hug someone who
comes back from a journey. It is not sunnah other than these two occasions but if done
incidentally then there is no sin. However the prevalent shaking hands and hugging done after
Eid salah is a bid’ah (innovation).
فی الشامیۃ:" لکن قد یقال ان المواظبۃ علیھا بعد الصلوات خاصۃ قد یؤدی الجھلۃ الی اعتقاد سنیتھا فی خصوص ھذہ المواضع،وان لھا خصوصیۃ زائدۃ علی غیرھا مع ان ظاھر کلامھم انہ لم یفعلھا احد من السلف فی ھذہ المواضع، وکذاقالوا بسنیۃقراءۃ السورۃ الثلاثۃ فی الوتر مع الترک احیانالئلا یعتقد وجوبھا ونقل فی تبیین المحارم عن الملتقط انہ تکرہ المصافحۃ بعد اداء الصلاۃ بکل حال؛لان الصحابۃ ؓ ماصافحوابعد اداء الصلاۃ ولانھا من سنن الروافض،ثم نقل عن ابن حجر عن الشافعیۃ انھا بدعۃ مکروھۃ لا اصل لھا فی لاشرع وانہ ینبہ فاعلھا اولا ویعزر ثانیا ثم قال:وقال ابن الحاج من المالکیۃ فی المدخل : انھا من البدع وموضع المصافحۃ فی الشرع انما ھو عند لقاء المسلم لاخیہ لا فی ادبار الصلوات فحیث وضعھا الشرع یضعھا فینبغی عن ذلک ویزجرفاعلہ لما اتی بہ من خلاف السنۃ۔"
